Michael graduated from Northeast Jones High School in Laurel, MS, in 1987. He further studied advertising art at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, MS. He later graduated from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS, with a degree in History and minor in Psychology.


Michael has experimented with various art forms since a very young age.  He has studied pencil, watercolor, acrylic, oil, pen and ink, pottery/ceramics, photography, colored pencil, pastel as well as many other mediums. He also works with Adobe Photoshop and CorelDRAW which are computer-based programs for photographs, photo-manipulation and design layout. He has used his skills in this area to layout t-shirts for several local organizations as well as patches for a local Boy Scout organization.

In 1996, Michael won a contest for designing the county flag for Jones County, MS. The flag was unveiled at the county seat of Laurel, MS, in April 1996.

Mr. Johnson's artwork was on show from January 2014 to February 2014 at the Fine Arts Building on the campus of Northeast Community College in Booneville, MS.  The show was a display of his photography, watercolor, pen and ink, pencil, and photo-manipulations.

Michael has taught art at Thrasher since 2005.
